Best, worst paid professions in Mexico

It’s official: I’m working the tenth worst paid profession in Mexico.

Ever wondered which professions earn the least in Mexico? The American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico has conducted a survey in the three largest cities: Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.

It is worth noting that average salaries are higher in these cities than in the rest of the country. According to the survey, these are Mexico’s ten lowest paid professional occupations in 2011:

1. Nursing: 2,000-4,000 (average wage in pesos per month)

2. Tourism: 3,000-5,000

3. Nutrition: 3,500

4. Musician: under 5,000

5. Teaching: under 6,000

7. Graphic design: 5,000-7,000

8. Psychology: under 7,000

9. Acting: 7,000

10. Journalism: under 8,000

And what are the best paid professions? According the federal government’s Observatorio Laboral website, the highest paid professionals earn the following:

1. Pilots: 23,554 (average wage in pesos per month)

2. Aeronautical engineering: 18,601

3. Mining engineering and metallurgy: 18,274

4. Health sciences: 17,600

5. Physical medicine and physiotherapy: 15,988

6. Geophysics and geology: 15,696

7. Public relations: 14,891

8. Electronic engineering: 13,486

9. Physics: 13,215

10. Civil engineering: 12,888

    Puedo ganar hasta 12,000 pesos al mes sin prepa terminada y ¿me dicen que solo hay 10 carreras que pagan más? De la shit.
