Over 500 drug plantations go up in flames

The National Defense Department (Sedena) destroyed hundreds of marijuana and opium poppy plantations across western Mexico last month.

Sedena incinerated 402 marijuana plantations across 43 hectares of land, 131 opium poppy plantations across 17 hectares, 354 grams of marijuana, 600 grams of marijuana seeds and 300 grams of cocaine across the Fifth Military Region, which comprises the states of Aguascalientes, Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit and Zacatecas, in July.

In addition, Sedena seized another 313 doses of marijuana, 291 doses of cocaine and 85 doses of crystal meth, plus 593 kilos and 9,639 liters of chemical precursors used to manufacture the latter drug.

Sedena arrested 68 suspected criminals in July, and also decommissioned 46 firearms, 11 grenades, 209 magazines for different weapons, 4,619 cartridges of different calibers, 38 vehicles, and 10 communications devices such as radios and cell phones.

Finally, Sedena recovered 2,550 liters of gasoline and 200 liters of diesel stolen at three different points from Pemex pipelines in the region.
