Top ten Mexican beers
Mexico has always been one of the world’s leading beer producers (and consumers) but only now is the country beginning to take pride in brewing a diverse range of lovingly crafted premium beers. The rapid growth of the cerveza artesanal industry has been consolidated by new legislation limiting the exclusivity deals that Modelo and Cuauhtemoc have long used to keep the market firmly closed.
Visit Mexico and it will immediately become clear that there is so much more to the local beer than Corona (as good as it may be) or cases of cheap, flavorless Tecate…

Have you tried Azabache and Az de Oro? Not sure which brewery they are – but they’re fantastic! The Azabache is dark and Az de oro is light.
Nah don’t think I’ve ever come across that one. Will keep an eye out for it though!
Cerveza Victoria the best
As a Brit married to a Mexican I have to concur with your choice of the top three from the big breweries. I’m going to look out for the others when we visit Mexico over Christmas!
If you like those ones, I’m sure you’ll love the others Rob! Where will you be in Mexico?
My wife’s parents live in Mexico City and also have a small place in Pachuca. We’ll mostly be dividing our time between those two, but Christmas itself will be will with family not far from Perote in Veracruz (very near that terrible landslide from a few weeks ago, actually…) and there is a road trip to Taxco and the surrounding area in the works.
Sounds good. I have a friend from Pachuca so went over there once. Never been to Veracruz or Taxco though. Have a great time!
Did you have pastes? An interesting British culinary legacy…
I did! Yeah that area has an interesting history. Went to a British cemetery in Real de Monte and also to the FIFA Museum in Pachuca which tells you about how British miners introduced football to Mexico.
A yes the one in the giant football! We went there last year. So many of the oldest football teams from around the world were founded by Brits abroad…
Have you had cerveza estrella from Guadalajara? One if my favorites.
I have, but I felt it was just like a bit of a lightweight Corona to be honest!
Dude…ypu forgot Pacifico, the best birria inthe world…..
