Police foil kidnapping

Police frustrated the attempted kidnapping of a restauranteur in Bugambilias on Tuesday, arresting four armed gang members after a brief firefight.

The police were alerted when the assailants, alleged members of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), arrived at the Canelos restaurant on Avenida Lopez Mateos in an armored Chevrolet pickup truck and took the owner hostage. The police exchanged fire with the suspects, injuring free and then detaining a fourth, while the victim escaped unharmed.

Inside the pickup, the police found weapons, communications equipment and bulletproof vests bearing the insignia of the CJNG. Following the arrests, the state and municipal authorities uncovered a CJNG safe house in the Bugambilias neighborhood.
