Guadalajara aims to boost profile through Pan American Games

Next month thousands of sports fans from all over the western hemisphere will flock to Guadalajara to attend the biggest multi-sports event of the year: the 2011 Pan American Games.

Organizers hope that staging the games, which take place October 14-30, will bring Guadalajara greater international recognition, just as the 2008 Beijing Olympics did for China.

The capital of the western state of Jalisco, Guadalajara is Mexico’s second biggest city. By securing the games and recently exporting a number of world-famous sports stars, the “Pearl of the West” has established itself as the country’s sporting capital…
